Pinnacle Tours: the Owners
The Owners
Pinnacle Tours is owned and operated by the
husband and wife team of Charles (Char) and Kimberly (Kim)
Courtney. They were both born and have lived all their lives
in the community of Francois where they are raising their
two daughters Alexandra and Sarah. Both Char and Kim come
from fishing and lighthouse-keeping families. Chars’
father was a fisherman, while his grandfather and two of his
uncles were fishermen turned light-keepers. Kim’s father
and grandfather were both light-keepers and both also spent
time in the fishery.

Charles
Char was a fisherman for 20 years, fishing
first with his father and then with his brother. His knowledge
of the sea and its habitat is unsurpassed, as is his knowledge
of the hills and mountains in the region. He has hiked the
area all his life and knows it like the back of his hand.
He is friendly and loves a good joke. Practical jokes on friends
are his favourite, but for some reason they always seem to
turn out opposite from what he expects and he gets the joke
on him. Whatever the turnout, he is a true Newfoundlander
with a good heart and a friendly word for everyone.
Always on the go, Char is continuously learning and upgrading
his long list of skills.
His credentials include:
- Limited Master’s Certificate (12 passengers)
- MED Level II
- fire fighting
- water survival/safety
- emergency preparedness
- Radio Operators course
Kim
Kim has long been known as a go getter.
She has worked on behalf of the town council for 15 years
and has been the mayor of Francois for the last five. She
loves talking to people, and in her own words, she admits
to having the “gift of gab”. That has not been
a bad thing for this lady who has always worked hard for her
community and her people. She refuses to take no for an answer
when she feels that her community needs something (especially
from government). She feels that these tiny outports and their
people should be held in high regard because they are what
Newfoundland came from and no one should have to lose their
heritage. Family, outdoors and her community are what she
puts in high esteem in her life. Her hobby is writing songs
and poetry, which often reflects her love for the community
of Francois and shows her true Newfoundland sense of humour.
